Is a clean eating diet the key to your nutritional health?
Clean eating diets have experienced a gradual increase in popularity over the years, and it might be time to consider if this diet would be good for you. Many people love the fact that with a clean eating diet you still get to eat plenty of food and the same amount of calories, the only difference being you take better care of what you put in your body in the first place.
What does a clean eating diet mean?
As mentioned, under this diet it doesn’t mean cutting down on calories and starving yourself, but instead, means reverting back to eating more natural foods that aren’t processed. This is known as eating “real foods” or whole foods, and by properly sticking to this plan you ensure that your body gets a good percentage break-up of the major food groups. Many products you buy in the supermarket nowadays are heavily handled before they reach your plate and as such have lost much of their natural nutritional qualities.
What are the benefits?
The obvious and immediate goal of most nutritional plans is to lose weight, and this one is no different as you will likely start eating far fewer processed fats and the correct proportion of good carbs. On top of weight loss, those following the clean eating diet report feeling more energised, have healthier teeth and gums and better mental health. It also removes the need for continual snacking throughout the day, because you give your body the energy it needs at each meal.
How do you get started?
There are a number of blogs online that preach the benefits of a clean eating diet and offer recipes. Before jumping 100% in you could start by going to your cupboard and removing any foods that are processed and contain lots of unnatural sugars and fats. Then start to draw up some recipes that you love that contain a good even proportion of protein, good carbs and vegetables.
